Hobbies on Dialysis

Mike Coward, a patient from Carmarthen sent in this email explaining how his woodwork hobby helped him cope whilst on dialysis. Mike is more than happy to help other patients who would be interested in taking up wood work

“Interests are important when on Dialysis time off. It is important to be active, have a physical moving about type of hobby, and not just the TV and a chair.

I have built a large model boat comprising of 614 parts, mostly hand made using simple low cost tools. It was something to look forward to doing and interesting. No time to feel ill or depressed. The medical care I had at the Carmarthen Dialysis Unit was fantastic (and the toast).

I have had a wood work based hobby for over 60 years, and this has helped me. I am willing to help or advise others if they want to start. “

Mike Coward.
